Or better yet which one is it, several minutes or 10 seconds? What's your thoughts?

The 10 seconds is to insure oil flow throughout the engine. Only time I’d give it a couple minutes would be in really cold weather.Or better yet which one is it, several minutes or 10 seconds? What's your thoughts?

This sounds like my life - glad I'm not the only one.I let all my vehicles warm up until the idle drops and the engine has a second to warm up. Depending on the temperature outside, this usually varies from 10 seconds to a minute. I always cringe when my wife jumps in her car, starts it up, and backs out before the idle has a chance to drop.
On shutdown I pretty much let it go a full fan cycle. Definitely a lot better for the engine. You should also let it run for about 30 seconds after coming to a stop before shutting down. Especially important if you have another vehicle that has a turbo.
