Correct I never had them on any of my machines and now especially with the back up cam
I find the side mirrors very useful if you go through narrow winding trails. The Defender with us last trip got some nasty scratches from not looking back to make sure the rear of the machine cleared the trees. I could look in the mirrors and easily miss them. Well worth the $200.

Does anyone know of a mounting bracket that I can use to mount a rugged radio in this area ?

Rugged has a mounting kit that cuts out the switch panel just below that pocket. It does cover the console pocket in front of the shifter, but adds 3 switch slots in its place.
Polaris Xpedition - Radio and Remote Head Intercom Mount Kit

For my Brothers Xpedition and mine, which are Ultimates as well, we got them before Rugged had come out with a Radio kit so I just built my own dash plate.

Thank you I seen that plate, but I was hoping that someone made a mount for that pocket only. I would like to keep those extra OEM switch slots for accessories.
I would like to mount the G1 radio by Rugged Radios.

If you have the tools, you could probably get that kit and cut off the lower portion so you just have the flat part of the dash plate. Then drill holes in the outer edge to screw it into the dash plastic.

Thank you for the ideas, i just might do that...with my luck I'm sure once i modify the dash plate someone will come out with a plate that fits that pocket. lol

I used the rugged mount. It adds three switches to the lower portion. Also I’ve mounted all of our antennas to the mirror to keep them out of the way. We ride in the mountains and have never had a problem communicating with our group.

Iirc yours is a Northstar so it limits dash space. If you’re only doing a radio and not coms there may be enough space under the A/C controls to cut it into the lower switch spots. You could also mount it on the top center panel on the dash. If you’re doing coms as well, the 696+ Remote 696 PLUS REMOTE HEAD High Fidelity Bluetooth Intercom would probably work well as it only takes one switch spot for the controller and the unit can be mounted under the dash.
Hello JTB,
do you have both comms and radio? I'm still trying to educate myself and was wonding if I mount the 696÷ under the front hood were would the radio mount?
Additionally, are the over head headsets VOX, or I'm I now running wires for PTT

The radio would mount like mine in the pic above and the intercom remote would go in a switch hole. The PTT is for cat to car communication and the VOX takes care of the in car communications. The vox will cut the music or other noise while talking to your own passengers while the PTT will cut out the same things but when you are talking to other vehicles in the same channel. Other passengers in your car will be able to hear you also using the PTT but it is broadcast across the outgoing radio frequency whereas the intercom is only heard by your passengers. Hope that helps.

Ok that makes sense! I'm limited on rocker space, So the 696+ could mount under hood and radio could mount above my head...then a cable to attena, cable and power to the 696+. Then cords to each headset from the 696+ and additional cords for PTT to driver and passenger. Correct?

Yes but I would lay it out to get an idea of cable lengths since you won’t be laying it out like they have in the kit. The 696 and radio have to be wired together with a connector kit. I believe they make an enclosure that is for a jeep that mounts both overhead.
