For the reasons mentioned in my intro post, I am leaning towards the Xpedition 2 seater.

I am reading that the ADV is louder then the XP. I love the idea of having the lockable space, but not at the cost of a lot of noise.

That gave me a thought. If this were a pickup truck, I would add a cap. Does anyone make a lockable cap for the XP? My though process is that having the back seperate from the front would keep the noise back there.

I think this would also give me the benefit of easier access for things under the bed (plugs and such.)

Thoughts?

The noise difference is only about 1-2 decibels between the XP and ADV. so it’s not a big difference. There are a couple bed caps for the XPs
Thanks JT, For that little bit of difference, I would go with the ADV. Would sound deadening rugs help with the sound?

Anything helps really. Especially anything that can dampen the vibration of all the plastics inside the cab. There are sound dampening kits available, with stick-on pads and such that can make quite a bit of difference.

For the Xpeditions we work on, we do a fair amount of disassembly and install sound mat everywhere we can and pack insulation in all the open areas. It just depends how much effort you want to spend on making it quieter.

Glad to help. 😊

For basic maintenance, there’s a hatch in the bed on the ADV, so you don’t need to remove the bed. Through the hatch you can access the oil fill port and spark plugs. The oil filter is typically accessed by removing the rear skidplate and reaching up from the bottom. For belt changes, it’s all from the side. The only reason an XP needs the bed raised to change a belt, is because the bed ram is in the way of removing the belt cover.

I would go for the ADV, i have one and i love it. I use my unit to do a lot of camping and that enclosed back end really is nice. But if you are looking for a dump bed then the XP would be the way to go. Either way they are both nice units.

Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for the reply. I can't think of anything that I would carry that I would want to dump out of the bed, so I don't need the dump bed. I like the idea of having easy access to the stuff that is in the back (snacks, water, etc.) And I like the idea of not having our stuff out in the open when we step away from the UTV.

I bought the ADV for that same reason !! The ONLY thing I can't do with the ADV that I would kinda like to, is carry extra gas..... But after 3100 miles I have never needed it so its not really an issue !! That was my biggest decision lol !! extra gas or not !!! :):):)

Literally thinking the same thing. Extra gas and maybe noise would be the difference between the two.

Update: For a bunch of reasons, I put a deposit on a 2025 Super Graphite Xpedition XP5 Northstar. The biggest reasons are that the DW said she prefers to be able to carry more junk and her sister if she shows up. And since most of her towing miles will be highway, she doesn't mind towing the longer trailer.

Thanks for the advise! I look forward to meeting you on the trails!!!

I had one more thought. If/when we get a dog, the dog can ride inside... until he smells like a dog and then he is in the bed. 👃
