I am looking at trailers to tow the Xpedition across country and then to local trail heads. We are fulltime RVers and will make this trip a couple of times a year. The trailer will be towed by my wife in our 2024 Ford Expedition. With the towing package, and a Weight Distribution Hitch, the Expedition has a 9,000 pound towing capacity.

Our dealer has a new 2022 Polaris 14' Tandem Axle 7,000 pound GVWR trailer. I would prefer an enclosed trailer and a longer trailer, but the wife is the one that will be driving and she is not comfortable with enclosed or longer.

As I noted, we will need to install the WD Hitch, especially when traveling across country. Do aluminum trailers and WD Hitches play well together?

Does anyone have any experience with these trailers? Anything I should consider?

Thanks

We haul ours on a 16' aluminum H&H tandem w/brakes on both axels. I don't see a need for a weight distribution hitch. On one occasion we hauled two Ranger XP1000 Northstars approx. 700-mile round trip. With the motor in the back, it really is balanced very good with the majority of the weight over the axles. I should mention our rig is a Polaris XD 1500 single cab.

The manufacturer (Ford) requires it. Otherwise the towing capacity it 6000 pounds. Better safe than sorry.

The Polaris has breaks on both axles as well.

What are you towing with?

Will you also employee a sway control with the WD hitch? If so be very careful if you encounter slippery roads. A slight slide is nearly impossible to recover from with the sway control engaged.

I tried to get the wife to buy a F150. She is not a truck girl. We like the Expdition and it will do the job.

The WD Hitch I am considering is the Weigh Safe medium. I believe the Expedition has sway control built in. I am not sure if it can be disengaged. Wouldn't engaging the trailer brakes straighten the car and trailer up?
