Hello everyone, new to forums but I’m in search of a good combo of parts and how too on building a 25 expedition. I’m in the process of switching from the ranger 1500 to the expedition, the 1500 has been nothing but aggregating from day one but that aside I know there are things I’m going to have to do to make this new rig mine but I hope to use everyone else’s experience to save some time and money. We trail/road ride with our kids and family friends in southern Indiana, I will be running 33” tires and would like to leave the suspension stock if possible. If anyone has suggestions on clutch kit, tune, and sound deadening I would greatly appreciate it, thanks all in advance

Howdy and welcome to the Forum!

I’m a little curious what problems you were having with the 1500.

Getting into your Xpedition, 33” tires might rub a little, especially at fully turned and worse if you’re going over a bump while turned. You can reduce it a little by making sure ride height is set properly for the weight you typically ride with, but it may still rub when you get in to really twisting trails. Polaris springs are notorious for “sagging in” and losing some of their height after a while so you might consider at least getting better springs.
For clutch kits and tune, we’ve used both Gilomen and Aftermarket Assassins. Both have excellent customer service and an excellent product.
For sound dampening, I posted a thread (here: Xpedition XP5 insulation job. ) on how we insulate the underside, and some pictures in this thread Would you buy it again? (#18) with some of the sound dampening materials. Several others have posted their work as well around the forum.

Hope this helps 😊

Really appreciate the info, as for the 1500 it is my second one and the first was fine but when I went to the crew it would sputter at first start then went to stall and now that we have around 1000 miles on it dies several times before it will stay running. Last weekend it took 7 times before it would stay running, once it started then there was no throttle for around 3 minutes after that it went to 5200 rpm without my foot on the accelerator. I almost ran into the cabin, once home it did it again to the point where I don’t feel comfortable letting my kids ride it without me. It has been to the shop 4 times over this issue with new injectors, fuel pump, and a service bulletin done and no change so I decided to move to a machine with a engine that has been around awhile, I know I’m going to have to spend alittle to get the expedition where I want it but at least I don’t have to worry about my kids in it

Wow! That is bad!
My brother has the 1500 Northstar Crew. He and a couple others have had issues with the transmission. Particularly when starting out on a hill. Polaris had a couple TCM updates that they flashed on to it but it didn’t really fix the problem. It was better than at first but still there.
Gilomen came out with both the ECU and TCM tunes that have made it into a whole different beast. Took it from 115 hp to 137 hp and opened it up to up to 80mph. It will probably stomp an Xpedition in a race now. As far as we’ve seen it also fixed the starting out on a hill issue as well, but it’s only been on a couple easy rides since we got it done.

I personally still prefer the Xpedition. The seats (at least in the front) are more comfortable, the ride is considerably better stock and the Ranger 1500 is just huge.
The primary complaint I hear with the Xpedition is the noise. The Northstars are actually louder inside than the Ultimates, because of being fully enclosed. It is a bunch of time and effort but you can get the noise levels down to reasonable. There’s also the option of doing Coms with headsets.
Overall, the Xpedition is an awesome machine.

The only thing I diddnt like about the 1500 is having to rev it so high before it will take off if its in a bind, also had to pull it out once because it wouldn’t back up, it diddnt even spin the tires in 4x4 reverse
