Greetings!

I’ve just returned from my Moab trip. I had shared in an earlier post I would share my experience. I will update this thread as I start to get through pics and videos of the trip. I’ll answer any questions that I can!

Overall, this machine exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Owning a Polaris Ranger Northstar Ultimate prior to the Xpedition, I used this as my reference/comparison.

Below is a list of what upgrades I’ve done so far.

I swore I wouldn’t like the hunter green when we first pulled the trigger. It has definitely grown on me! Good looking rig. What type of quick jump post do you have🧐. I had a set on my x3, hadn’t had to look for it on this thing yet. I’m assuming it’s a pain in the ass?

I bought it on Amazon, link below. The battery is under the driver seat and it only takes two bolts to remove the seat, then a cover to access it. It’s not horrible, but I expect I’d get frustrated in the moment with a dead battery.

I chose to remove the jump posts from the mounted bracket it came with and just mount flush. Wasn’t terrible at all.

long travel was definitely the deal breaker for the wife🤣. She hates the way the 64 wides look going in front of us (x3 was 72). So when I said I mean we could throw a long travel on it, jokingly of course. She pulled the trigger so I didn’t have to.

Also we had a bench seat in the x3 in the rear. So it was a hour or more event just to get to the battery. Couple bolts shouldn’t be bad.

interested in the front yellow lights, did you cut the plastic holes out of the way, what mounts?
 
Day 1,
I unloaded and headed toward the trail. Having less time than 10 miles on the machine, I really had no idea how it would handle. Unfortunately I didn’t make it 500 yards before it went into limp mode. The ride command flashed “ Release Brake.” I had installed a parking brake I thought maybe I had pinched a sensor or the brake was stuck, but neither ended up being the case. I ended up disconnecting the brake sensor and kept it disconnected for about 45 minutes. I ordered a new sensor so I could install when I returned home. The sensor did not give any more issues the rest of the trip, but reading about other users experiences I don’t want to risk any future issues.

We headed to “Hells Revenge” to test the capabilities. The machine handled amazing. We had 5 occupants with a bed loaded with coolers, tool box and camera gear etc.

The increased Horse Power vs my ranger was noticed immediately. The sport mode in the sand was so much fun and the family had a blast. After hitting one of the hot tubs and some of the hill climbs with ease we moved onto the next trail. I opted not to attempt Hells Gate this year, but hope to have limit straps and sway bars disconnected next year so I can attempt it.

We then went on to “Fins n Things” trail. We hit the hill climbs and did the hardest lines we could. We had no issues on the entire trail. I did start to hear the front end clunking that many users on here have shared. Felt around the front end and everything did feel tight, and I could not locate the clunk.

We then headed for “Porcupine Rim”, but decided we did not have enough time to get to the lookouts. A few pics we captured below.

Day 2

We headed south of Moab to a trail known as “Behind The Rocks”. According to the book, this trail is rated very difficult. We had 4 families in the group and none of us had ever been on it, so we were all excited to tackle or at least attempt the obstacles on this trail.

It had rained all night, so we anticipated some traction issues on these obstacles. We had an absolutely amazing time on this trail. It had Arches, sand Whoops, numerous obstacles, rock ledges and we even managed to find some sand dunes.

I opted not to attempt “High Dive” obstacle which is a 6’ + rock ledge that takes very specific line to achieve without rolling over. A buddy managed to slide down it in his rzr 4 seater. I attempted to crawl up “Upchuck” but with the wet conditions, and my belt getting warm after numerous attempts, I had to throw in the flag and take the bypass on this one.

I did however manage to accomplish “Hummer Hill” “roller Coaster” and “white knuckle”. The xpedition did amazing on all of them. At no point did I feel any loss of control, steering or stability. I do wish the brakes were not as soft as they were as it did require you to really push them down to hold you back on some of these obstacles.

I would highly recommend this trail to anyone looking for a challenge with a variety of other interests in a trail.

Day 3

This week was our final day of the trip. We had planned to hit “Top of the World” and if we had time “Dome Plateau.” However when we left Moab, there was a marathon on the highway which blocked access. So we decided to hit “Poison Spyder.”

This trail really tested the durability of the rock sliders. We made it to the top, with no issues and a couple new pin stripes on the under carriage.

There are some things I’m looking to change on the machine down the road, but for those who say “ buy a jeep,” I can confidently tell them they legit do not know what they’re talking about. They both have a purpose, and if ever given the choice, I will select the Xpedition for all my off-road needs!

Great write up and pictures. What would you recommend for change or upgrade on the machine to improve experience or capability there?

I definitely want to disconnect/ remove front sway bars. I won’t do this until I get some limit straps first.

I’m also considering upgrading the springs to a shock therapy setup. Don’t get me wrong, the stock springs have been great, but I’ve heard from numerous riders, shock therapy setup was the most significant upgrade they had made to their rigs.

The other things are likely because of my height and personal preference.

The door handles on the inside hit my knee and leg consistently while riding, especially the slow rock crawling and shelf descending. If the handle were to be angled slightly, or moved up a few inches, it would have made a world of difference.

The other is the passenger door rear view mirror. I’m tall and have my seat all the way back, yet the angle and placement of the mirror does not allow me to see the entire mirror. It would only need to come back and inch or so, but it’s just enough to annoy me when using it lol. If you are shorter, or have the seat moved closer to the steering wheel, it would cut down visibility even more. Again- this is super minor but just something I had noticed this ride.

This post right here just made my day. I just got back from Moab where I was in a General Ultimate and then later a Can Am Defender. That is all I have to compare to. They were capable but I figured more power would be better but not sure the xpedition had the capability. I have been searching for videos showing the capabilities but not finding much and Moab is what I am interested in. Thanks for all the detail and the photos!
