There are ways to get it to reasonable noise levels (for a SxS). It’s quite a bit of work but the result is definitely worth the effort.
I made a post on how I insulate the Xpeditions here;
Xpedition XP5 insulation job.
And a few pictures of the sound dampening material in this thread;
Would you...
Congrats on the new machine!
As far as I’m aware, there are no reliability issues that are common with the Xpedition. The majority of complaints are generally about the noise levels and minor issues here and there.
Overall, I’ve found my Xpedition and others I’ve been around to be very...
Agreed! Being able to see the hitch and tires is highly important. DRT could do a little fix by cutting a camera hole in the bumper and then it’d take a bit of wire re-routing, or at least shorten the bumper stick-out.
Evolution Powersports is coming out with a turbo setup for the Xpedition that is essentially what it would be if the factory did it.
It would definitely be nice if Polaris had a factory turbo Xpedition, but this is the next best thing.
I’d be surprised if Polaris ever offered a factory long...
It’s typical on the Polaris high rpm motors to have a fair amount of blow by, especially if you’re running full rev most of the time. In 2000 miles I’ve also added about a quart overall and I can see it’s going from the crankcase breather back into the intake.
Another trip to Sand Mountain in Utah, and after a year and a half of owning the Xpedition I’m still blown away by how versatile these machines are!
From rock crawling to trail riding to ripping the bowls at the dunes, they do it all with ease!
If you’re looking at Polaris Item #: 1525369-655 it’s the correct one. The description says “FBLK” but it’ll match the wheel, minus any weathering and fading.
100% agreed. They are a very heavy SxS and you definitely feel it in the sand.
I guess my point is, if we’re comparing the Xpedition to anything around its class of SxS, like Ranger, Defender, General, Commander, Rmax etc… the Xpedition outclasses all of them in every type of terrain.
I’ve not found sand to be a problem at all in my XP5. I just air the tires down to 8 psi and run it. I’ve pulled our camp trailers all over Sand Hollow in the dry sand, towed a Ranger that was struggling, up the big sand hill out of the Tunnel there, ripped all over around Coral Pink Sand dunes...
Here’s a couple pictures of what I did on our latest Xpedition build.
I also did the sound membrane on the back side of the panels but didn’t take pictures.
I also made a post a while back on insulating the underside.
Xpedition XP5 insulation job.
It wouldn’t hurt to check your current ground clearance. Polaris springs are famous for “sagging in”.
That and every 2024 Xpedition I’ve worked on was set low from the factory. You can adjust the spring preload to regain the 14” spec clearance.
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT doing the SATV lift kit!
It is just a spring spacer kit that will put way too much preload on the springs and make your Xpedition ride like crap.
Factory spec is 14” ground clearance on 30” tires. You can adjust the springs to get this height so long as your...
I would absolutely buy the Xpedition again! Having traded in a General on my Xpedition, I’d say it’s by far better all around. More seating, more bed space, more performance and considerably better ride. For every 1 person that complains about the noise etc. there’s 5+ that are perfectly fine...
They’re the Rigid SR-M Series driving lights. (Part# 2889731) They use the mounts in the Polaris Xpedition HD bumper but the kit comes with a bracket for the stock bumper, and wiring harnesses that clips into factory spots on either bumper.
We added the optional yellow lense covers.
I’m partial to Maxxis brand tires. They lightweight's and excellent for SxSs.
The RAZR XT is a great all terrain tire we’ve put on multiple Xpeditions and I’m personally running on the Maxxis Carnivore. It is great for the mix of sand dunes and trail riding that I do.
If you’re using the Polaris light bar mounts, the rear bolt is 8mm x 55mm
And the front 2 bolts are 6mm x 25mm I believe. The rear bolt replaces one of the roof bolts.
From the light bar to the bracket is a 6mm bolt but I’m not sure on the length. They are specific to the light bar and there’s...
It would be good to know if the Pro R master cylinder could bolt up to the Xpedition.
The main reason for the XD 1500 having vacuum assist brakes is its hauling and towing capacity. That and it’s 500 pounds heavier than the Xpedition dry weight.
Another friend just purchased a 2025 Xpedition XP Northstar and let us do the build for him!
The build includes;
HCR Mid Travel suspension with Eibach springs, Demon Powersports Axles and shock tuning by UTV PROs
Maxxis RAZR XT 33/10R15 tires on
Method 401 Beadlock Wheels.
Polaris HD...
Neat what technology can do but… I just don’t see the point in this. 🤷♂️
There’s lots of different methods of mapping that are more efficient.
And at least half of the reason for going off-road is the driving experience.
Most aftermarket UTV/sxs 15” wheels are 7” wide. There are some 10” wide wheels but they’re intended for paddles, and here and there is a 6” or 8” wide wheel but 7” is pretty much the standard.
All 4 wheels are 15x7. No idea why they do 11” wide tires on the rear and 10” on the front. 🤷♂️ Polaris does that on the General and Ranger too.
I run a Maxxis Carnivore 32/10r15 on all 4 wheels on my Xpedition. Running all 4 tires the same size is better, in my opinion, so you can rotate them...
Howdy and welcome!
Some things I think are absolute necessities are;
A basic or better tool kit.
Spare belt
Tire plug and patch kit.
Air compressor (12v or cordless)
And a first aid kit.
Other necessities depend on your particular kind of riding.
If you do much night riding, a Light Bar...
Here’s hoping they take care of you on it!
Polaris has been pretty good to us on several occasions, but nothing was as major as repairing/replacing an engine.
That sounds like very “shop” like thing to say 😂
Short of a bad oil pressure regulator, the engine should maintain fairly constant oil pressure through its entire rpm range, except at idle. They’re basically saying if everyone with a Prostar II motor doesn’t run it at max rpm it’s somehow not...
Unless it’s a hardware issue, I’ve found that re-installing the latest software update usually fixes any glitches. Even if you’re on the latest update, you can re run it.
They have some foam inserts around the top of the intakes so there’s only a little more packing you can do up top.
The majority of areas that need help is the rear firewall and under the floor.
We use a 5mm layered sound deadening mat on the inside and a 9mm foil backed foam mat on the...
