My friend is getting excessive cable wear, and it's only the beginning of Jan. I have the exact same configuration arriving in a few days. Has anyone added a sheath or a section of sacrificial cable to avoid breakage. The bike should have some type of roller (for plowing) at the output of the winch.

I would recommend a plow lift strap.
You can also add a roller fairlead. You will loose the auto stop feature, but the strap will last a lot longer.

I went with the lift strap as suggested. I assume the friction wears the power paint from the bottom of the wench slot.

I also had to swap out for a lift strap. I snapped the line with just two days of relatively mild plow use and had to throw on an emergency carabiner just to keep moving.

Problem Solved!
With a few trials I managed to 3D print a replacement magnetic stop for flat wench cables. It works very well with the cable stopping with an inch gap. I have attached the files if you will like to print your own.

I used the super atv plow lift strap and haven't had any issues. I don't notice excess wear on my cable with this strap.
