Finally got a good ride in at Crossbar ORV park in Davis OK. 6 1/2 hour ride and covered about 16 miles. 70% of it was rocky and some very rocky. had about a dozen mud holes and some of the rocks were wet from rain yesterday morning.
XP5 has SATV long travel, Schmidty springs, Schmidty nitrogen end caps with 200 psi. Shocks front and rear were set in "1" for softest setting. Tires are 34x10x15 Tusk Terrabites at 9psi. Rear swaybar is on, front is off.
Machine did everything I asked it too. It went everywhere the Canam Maverick went. Ride was smooth and with the wider stance (about 76") didn't feel tippy at all. Very pleased with it. Tusk Terrabites did pretty good in the mud and good on the rocks. My Crawler XG's do a little better on the rocks but absolutely suck in the mud. XP5 wasn't lacking for power even on the steep rocky climbs.
On very extreme rocks my Turbo R might edge it out but the rear trailing arms drag on it, so not so sure. If I have any complaint about the XP5 it would be that I can't see my front tires at all, so you gotta pick your line before you get there. We will keep the Turbo R for the very rocky trails (like Hot Springs Offroad Park). Tipping the Turbo R over and damaging some plastic is one thing, taking out one or two window glasses- NO Thanks.
The only mishap was I ruined a tire loading it on the trailer. Somebody parked next to use and their gooseneck trailer was blocking a clear straight path for me to load the machine. I had to come in at an angle. Had two people guiding me but neither caught it. The right rear rubbed against the upright on the trailer. It had a weld that was pointed and sharp. It tore a triangle shaped tear in my brand new tire. $260 down the drain!!
