My dealings with Gilomen have been top notch. Their customer service was outstanding. When I got my ECM back from tuning, it had an issue where the cooling fan came on with the key and stayed on. Everything else worked fine, just the fan stayed on. They Next day aired another ECM out to me with...
Just joking. 🙃
Best mod that doesn’t break the bank is an ECM tune and clutch kit. Price ranges from $700 package from Gilomen to $850 from Aftermarket Assassins.
I have the Gilomen setup on my XP5 and my Brother has Aftermarket Assassins on his. Really can’t say there’s any difference...
https://www.polaris.com/en-us/shop/off-road/accessories/lighting/rigid/2889731/
They’re also available from Fueled UTV and a couple others. The Xpeditions are already pre-wired for these and just need a switch and Y harness. The switch plug is located behind the dash near the headlight switch...
When mine did it, I tried everything I could think of for about 2 days. Hard reset, unplugging and replugging all the wires, even chased all the antenna wires trying to see if they were rubbing or shorting anywhere….
I was about 5 minutes from loading it up and hauling it back to the dealer when...
Howdy Steve and welcome to the forum!
First suggestion would be a clutch kit and ECM tune. Aftermarket Assassins and Gilomen seem to be the most common, though there are several others. I don’t really think there’s any real performance differences between the different companies tuning, so...
I’ve kept a thumb drive with me so that anyone else that has that problem, I can help out.
Also the update is the same for all 7” 7 button Ride Command ORV machines so I can update RZRs, Generals and Rangers that ride with us. Most people have never updated since they bought their machines 😂
Sorry I’m late to the thread but I had this issue on mine as well and have seen it on several other Xpeditions. The fix is really simple, just run the latest update, even if your Ride Command is already on it. It has fixed this particular problem every time.
Every Xpedition I’ve worked on has come from the factory with the spring preload set clear at the top. None of them have been at the advertised ride height so the need for adjustment is pretty much a given.
Like BadXP said, it’s well worth removing the shocks to do the adjustment. Also worth...
We had TCPerformance build us some heavy duty radiators for our Generals. Turns out they slip right into the Xpedition. Only modifications we had to do was trim the coolant hoses and modify the upper mount straps.
It’s a triple pass radiator, 1-1/4” thicker than stock with a fully shrouded high...
Force Turbos makes a decent product but there is a downside. They don’t have an intercooler. We’ve had the Force Turbos kits on both a General and a Ranger. The power difference is significant but you do have to watch your temps if you push it hard or for very long. Pricing on the Ranger and the...
Every video I’ve seen since the Xpedition came out has been either just talking about them, or barely puttering around. This fellow puts his Xpedition through its paces!
While I have pushed my own Xpedition pretty hard, I haven’t pushed this hard on it. Also, I’ve never had a spare cameraman...
Yes and by the hub knuckle. But it still would’ve had some play. When I get a bit to disassemble mine I’ll check it and see if that’s an issue on mine as well. I purchased a set of Kryptonite tie rods a while back but haven’t had the chance to install them.
Not sure yet if it’s fixed it. At the...
Mine has the same sound. I haven’t checked on my machine yet, but when removing the A-arms on my brother’s to install the HCR suspension I found one of the ball joints loose in the loop in the a-arm. It pretty much fell out where the others had to be pressed out. The ball joint itself was fine...
A lot of that will depend on your primary riding style. For dunes and track/fast trail riding solid sway bar links are better. But if you’re primarily doing slower rugged trails or rock crawling, either the shock type links or simply removing the front links works better.
For me, I do a...
My brother and I ordered and received our Xpeditions at the same time. Both XP 5s and 1 VIN number different. I have done all the accessory installs on both. That being noted, I’ve had zero issues with my machine. It has 1” hub adapters and 4/3 offset wheels bringing it out to 72” overall width...
The very first ride out after installing my low profile rock sliders I nailed a rock really hard on the driver side one. Hard enough that had I not had the sliders it definitely would’ve torn the skid plate and bottom plastics and might’ve even dented or bent the outer frame. The rock slider is...
Milwaukee Packout is my personal favorite solution. There are a couple companies that make Packout mounting plates specifically for the Xpedition, or you can get standard Milwaukee plates and mount them yourself. The main reason is there’s no need for straps, just clip in and clip out. And they...
I used the adapters to go from 5/4.5 to 4/156 so I could use the Raceline beadlocks that I had on my General, they’re 4/3 offset and put my overall width at 72”
I have 1” lug adapters and 4/3 offset wheels on my XP5. It doesn’t affect tire sizes at all. I could easily fit 32s or 33s without rubbing. As for trail restrictions, it depends on how strict they are about the restrictions, but you’ll definitely be wider. Probably around 68”.
As far as as the...
If you have the adv, the driver side bed panel on the bed comes off to access the coolant tank. There’s room in there to store a belt. On the XP models you can use the same location but you have to raise the bed to access it. Another option is under the hood panel. I’ve seen several people put...
I had them on my General too and really liked them. But they had a mount that looked clean.
On the Xpedition you’d currently have to use the cab tube mount, which would put them a little high or come up with another mount solution. Hopefully Seizmik is working on something clean.
Having broken 2 mirrors already, thus having to purchase 2 full sets of them from Polaris simply because I needed the glass part, I’d be more than happy to buy Seizmik for the replaceable glass and lifetime warranty.
I’d prefer not to have a weird mount situation but if I break one more, I’ll...
The tires say 32 x 10.00R15 but they measure 30” actual with a little bit of a squish from machine weight. They are taller than the stock tires by around an inch. There is still a good 4.5” clearance to the firewall so I wouldn’t doubt that 35s would fit.
Welcome!
Honestly, these machines are such a massive upgrade from the General that the price difference doesn’t feel as bad as at first glance. I definitely have no regrets over it.
We’ve finished the upgrades that were planned on the Ranger XD 1500.
32” Rigid light bar
Sound deadening and insulation
Window tint
W. D. Street Legal Kit with Trailer harness
32” Maxxis Rampage tires on Packard 3.5/3.5 offset wheels.
Anything that is a factory warranty “should” be able to be done at any Polaris dealer. However, if you purchase a warranty or service agreement where you buy the machine, it’ll only be useable at that dealership.
the only time I use low range is for really technical trails or rock crawling, and long stretches where my speed doesn’t exceed 25 mph. I don’t like running very long without being able to run the full range of the clutches, just for longevity.
If I hit short areas that are technical but don’t...
This Ranger XD1500 was a direct upgrade for my brothers ‘21 Ranger 6 seat Northstar. He says the seating improvements are really good. He couldn’t do more than a couple hour ride in the previous one without starting to feel sore. And that was with HCR long travel. With a full day ride in the...
Oh yeah! And like I said, it’s currently on the lowest shock setting right now.
His plan is 32” tires on Packard wheels. I’ll get some pictures once it’s done.
It’s stock tires on the Ranger. At the lowest shock setting it is sitting at 14.75” rear and 14.5” front ground clearance.
My Xpedition has sagged in a ways since my initial adjustment to the shocks so it’s sitting around 13” loaded right now.
Also, nothing really loaded in the Ranger just...
For all those complaining about noise on the Xpeditions, the XD1500 is extremely quiet for a SxS. My brother picked up his Ranger XD1500 last week and has taken it on a couple rides since.
Cruising average rpm is around 3500 and top rpm hits around 6300-6400 at near 64 mph top speed.
It is...
Glad it’s working. I’m half tempted to just remove the bed ram entirely. Other than oil changes, I don’t really need to dump the bed. And then there’d be no reason to raise the bed for belt/clutch work.
That is a fantastic looking machine you have there. Love the color.
Also, I guess that was a bad assumption on the SDR machine. Pretty much all color changes I’ve ever seen in person were wraps.
The only problem I have with a fully mounted storage solution in the bed, is you essentially need to unload the bed to change a belt on the XPs. The bed tilt ram has to be removed to get the clutch cover off and any weight in the bed can make that a real hassle. I made my own Milwaukee Packout...
It’s really common for people to feel like they’re overrevving the motor in these machines. The motor itself in the Xpedition is designed for a very high rpm. 9000 is a relatively safe max rpm on these but factory their rev limiter is set around 8200 or 8400… can’t remember for certain.
These...
I traded in a base model 2019 General 4 on my Xpedition. It had no stereo, no ride command, nothing. I added a trailtech voyager for gps but my main improvements were in the suspension. 30” BFG KM3s on Raceline beadlocks, Super ATV high clearance A-arms and custom tuned and springed shocks. All...
Utah, Arizona and Nevada. I used to always go for the cheapest gas stations just trying to save money. An easy way for them to offer cheaper fuel is a higher ethanol content. One of the biggest culprits several years ago was Maverik gas stations in Utah. Tried saving money because they were...
As you stated, you tuned for E85. The tunes adjust timing and injection to account for the difference in ignition rate between gasoline and ethanol. Bad gas can be as simple as 15% or higher ethanol content. There definitely shouldn’t be any issues with 10% but some gas stations claiming only up...
Even when the check engine light is on? I’ve had them disappear when the light goes off but if there’s nothing with the light on then it’s for the dealership to figure out. 🫤
